Visiting Southern Wisconsin
Southern Wisconsin blossoms into a vacationer's paradise during the spring. With cities like Chilton, Sparta, and Appleton as an anchor, and Dodgeville and Wisconsin Dells adding their piece, too, don’t miss out on a southern Wisconsin getaway this spring. Appleton is home to The Building for Kids Children’s Museum, and for the adults don’t miss out on the Appleton Brewing Company. Visit the Museum of Minerals and Crystals while in Dodgeville, home of Governor Dodge State Park. Springtime amusement is a certainty with a visit to the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire in, yep, you guessed it – Eau Claire.
North of Dodgeville, and affectionately known as “The Dells,” Wisconsin Dells is an attractive and quaint springtime destination for southern Wisconsin travelers. On a warm day, there’s hardly anything better than cooling off with some splashing fun – be sure to head on over to Noah’s Ark, the largest waterpark in America. Beginning May 9, Noah’s Ark is open from morning to night, and is a sterling example of southern Wisconsin hospitality and excitement – and of course, parking at Noah’s Ark is always free.
Wisconsin Dells is full of excitement and fun – be sure to treat the kids with a visit to Timber Falls Adventure Park where they can tucker themselves out with a full day of mini-golf, roller coasters, and other assorted amusement park rides. Continuing with the adventure, head over to Kalahari Indoor Theme Park and have a blast.
Head west from Wisconsin Dells into Sparta. Though you won’t find an army of 300 anywhere around this Sparta, it’s still a pleasant and memorable destination while exploring southern Wisconsin. Affectionately known as the “Bicycling Capital of America,” Sparta is a great spot to visit when looking for small town charms – don’t miss the Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum, or check out Sparta Butterfest Celebration & Carnival at Memorial Park, June 7-10.
South of Green Bay, and just minutes from Lake Winnebago, Chilton is found. A small city, Chilton was first established in 1845 as a sawmill town, and today is home to Gravity Park, a motocross track. Indulge in a taste of local brews with a visit to the Rowland Calumet Brewery, or play a little catch and release at Killsnake River.
Eau Claire, one of the more northern set cities in southern Wisconsin, is easily accessed from I-94, and features the Putnam Park State Natural Area. Take advantage of pristine spring weather conditions with a visit to Carson Park, just minutes from downtown Eau Claire. Plan for a picnic, a hike around the park, fishing on Halfmoon Lake, or a visit to the Chippewa Valley Museum, set on the park grounds. Any visit into Eau Claire is hardly complete without a tour of the popular Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum.
