Visiting Northern Wisconsin
Northern Wisconsin is home to lake Country and authentic Badger State communities like Minocqua, Tomahawk and Rhinelander. Traditional Wisconsin summer events include the Oneida County Fair hosted in Rhinelander. Hosted at Pioneer Park on East Kemp Street at South Oneida Avenue, the 2012 fair, marks the 116th year of festivities. Join in the fun August 2nd to the 5th and bring the family. Family Land returns to keep the kids busy, exhibits showcase the best Lake Country and 4-H livestock and agriculture along with the new Green Acres container garden competition. It’s tradition family fun at the Oneida County Fair.
Fishing enthusiasts don’t miss the 2012 Rhinelander Toyota Hodag Musky Challenge. With choices of premier Lake Country fishing spots including Crescent Lake, Oneida Lake and Boom Lake, the competition is fun as well as competitive. Join the HMC September 7th through 9th, not just fun, the payouts make it well worth a weekend of Wisconsin fishing.
Athletes mark Saturday August 11th on your training calendar for the 2012 See Me Minocqua Triathlon. Called the See Me Tri, this is a challenging summer event in Wisconsin’s scenic Northwoods. The race begins with the swim in Clear Lake east of Woodruff and Minocqua, followed by the bike, with a course through the wooded back roads of Wisconsin’s Lakeland area. The run takes athletes along a wilderness trail in the Raven Hiking system finishing in the Clear Lake Picnic area . Put yourself to the test or come out and cheer on family in friends at the gala finish line celebration.
Film buffs and arts enthusiasts check out the 2012 Inaugural Campfire Film Festival celebrating Wisconsin’s Film Industry. The festival is hosted in Minocqua and locations in Oneida and Vilas Counties, September 5th through the 9th. The Campfire Film Festival features events, including Acting for Film and Video Workshop at Minocqua’s Campanile Center for the Arts, and film screenings at Woodruff’s Lakeland Cinema. Join the inaugural festival and help make it a Northwoods tradition.
This is the season for a getaway to the Wisconsin shores of Lake Superior. Summer is fair season in Wisconsin and Superior's Head of the Lakes is one of the most popular. Load up family and friends August 14th through the 19th, for the 2012 HOL Fair. Enjoy free concerts with Badfinger and Steel Magnolia; browse traditional animal, plant and hobby exhibits; and thrill on the midway rides by Todd Armstrong Shows. Held in Superior at the Head of Lakes Fairgrounds, don’t miss a visit.
With a tag line “it’s a party for people with a triathlon problem” you don’t want to miss the Burrito Union 5&10 Hour Tri at Superior's Pattison State Park. A friendly triathlon with categories including: The Fat Capitalist for racing the 5 or 10 hours solo; The Imperialist two-person relay; and the Comrades, three-person relay. About as much fun as a triathlon can be, amateurs and athletes join the challenge and have some fun September 8th in Superior at the Burrito Union 5&10 Hour Tri.
