Visiting Northern Wisconsin
As you draw up your winter travel plans for northern Wisconsin, there will be several truths you encounter – packing your favorite scarf-coat-glove combo will be a must, and cities like Spooner, Green Bay, and Eau Claire are sure to offer a wide variety of must-see entertainment.
When you do pass through Eau Claire, enjoy an extended stay and check out some of the highlights – the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus offers tours, and the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum is fun and edifying.
Eau Claire is also one of the more culturally diverse areas in the state, evidenced by their Hmong New Year Celebration held on November 12th and 13th. Visit the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center for this authentic celebration of Hmong culture and its people. Make the short drive in from nearby Rice Lake.
Your visit to northern Wisconsin will hardly be complete without a stay in Green Bay. Many know Green Bay as the home of the NFL’s Packers, while some will know it as the home of Austin Straubel International Airport, and it’s proximity to Appleton.
This fall and into winter, your stay in Green Bay should be coupled with an exceptional football experience. Visit the historic and impressive Lambeau Field to catch the Packers in action. On December 4th they’ll face the Houston Texans, and on December 24th they’ll battle one of their biggest rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, in what is their final regular season home game of the year. The drive in from nearby cities Sturgeon Bay and Marinette should be quick.
Though Green Bay certainly is crazy for their Packers, there will be much more to see and do than football. In December you can kick off your holiday celebration early with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. This legendary band will be playing live at the Resch Center on December 9th starting at 4 p.m.
The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, found in Appleton, will be hosting one of premier concerts of early 2017. Visit on February 13th for your chance to see the iconic Boyz II Men live on stage. They’ll take to the stage starting at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available starting as low as $41.50.
